Two nonprofit clients needed a way to identify donors who had already included them in their will — or were thinking about it — without building something new from scratch. We built two different solutions inside Luminate Online, each matched to how each team actually operates.
Legacy giving is one of the highest-value relationships a nonprofit can have with a donor. The challenge for many organisations is that they don’t know when it’s happened. Donors make the decision, include the organisation in their will, and nobody on the fundraising team finds out until it’s too late to steward that relationship while the donor is still alive.
Two of our clients wanted to change that. They needed a digital solution that would surface planned giving intent through their online donation forms and connect that information to their existing systems and workflows. Both were running on Luminate Online. Neither needed the same solution.
Rather than building one approach and applying it to both, we designed two separate implementations based on how each team works.
For the first client, we embedded a planned giving checkbox into the donation form using a survey question. When a donor selected it, their response and donor details were automatically submitted through the survey tool, triggering an internal notification email to staff in real time. The fundraising team could follow up within hours while the donor’s intent was still top of mind.
For the second client, we built a custom donation form field connected to a Boolean field on the Luminate Online constituent record. When donors indicated planned giving interest, that information was stored directly in their supporter profile. Staff could then run scheduled reports to identify and follow up with donors in batches, which matched how their team was already structured to work.
Both organisations now have a clear, repeatable way to identify planned giving interest through their online donation forms. The data lives inside their existing systems. There’s no third-party tool to maintain, no manual transfer of information, and no moment where a donor’s intent falls through the cracks.
For each organisation, the system was designed to fit their team’s actual capacity — not an ideal workflow that would require new processes to maintain.
“Working with Yeeboo was an excellent experience from start to finish. We hired them to help us manage technical aspects as we implemented our new donation platform. Their expertise in working with multiple digital tools was evident from the start, and their responsive customer service meant every project was completed quickly and effectively. With their help, we successfully met our goal of providing an enhanced digital giving experience for our donors. We would highly recommend them to any organization looking for a dependable, communicative, and skilled web development partner.”
