GivingTuesday has announced a Day of Global Action for Giving and Unity in Response to COVID-19 on May 5, 2020.
This could be just the spark our sector needs in response to the fear and panic that the postponement or cancellation of event season will mean for many organizations.
Many organizations are reeling from the uncertainty that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused.
Personally, I think this is a great opportunity for our sector to rally together and prove our value to society.
Amazing as this could be – we must however be careful to temper our expectations that this one day will solve the larger problems caused by the new WFH reality that could be most of 2020.
Yes, this could be an amazing galvanizing moment – and it should be. If we all come together and rally our energy around it, it can be.
But we also need to continue the push towards new ways of connecting with and mobilizing our communities. Whether that’s renewed investment into digital fundraising, event virtualization, DIY or LiveStream fundraising – there are brave new ways for us to reach out and connect to the goodness that has always supported our missions.
So I urge you to get involved, start planning your #GivingTuesdayNow campaign now – and to keep that momentum towards digital transformation and digital fundraising going as we all move forward and beyond.
You can read all about #GivingTuesdayNow here at the official Giving Tuesday website.
Be well and stay safe.
